The Soil Conservation District (SCD) is a statewide political subdivision as a public body exercising public powers to educate and assist landowners implementing soil conservation practices and techniques. The District is governed by a five member Board of Supervisors and is supported by a staff of seven employees. These employees are funded by the County, State and Federal Governments.

The Soil Conservation Program includes the following functions:

• agricultural soil and water quality conservation planning aids in minimizing nonpoint source pollution through the voluntary participation in, and implementation of, these plans, public information/ education to schools, youth/ adult groups and organizations
• residential technical assistance to investigate surface and subsurface drainage and erosion complaints from County residents
• program administration/training and development support to the Soil Conservation District and the Montgomery Soil Conservation District Board of Supervisors
